Science
These are all films with a science theme, and are from various sources - some made in school, some out of school, some with help, some without help, some with funding and some with no money at all.
We hope you find them all interesting!

Making foam
By Mangotsfield School
In this experiment we used potassium iodide, hydrogen peroxide, detergent and sodium thiosulphate.

Flash experiment
By Mangotsfield School
In this video we will show the reaction between magnesium and copper oxide. We will cause these to react, as a result causing a bright white flash. To set this experiment up, we suspended a tin bottle top using an iron wire mesh. We then placed a mixture of copper oxide and magnesium in powdered form and of equal proportion into the bowl. We then lit a busen burner and heated the contents. This triggered the flash.

Indoor Rockets
By Hanham High
In this film, you will see a group of students trying an exploding experiment. We will be causing an explosion involving a film cannister and a vitamin C tablet. Just to let you know, vitamin C tablets contains citric acid. Please watch it and do it.

This film shows you how to make your own Cartesian Diver made by Year 8 Pupils at Hanham High School

Popping boat
By Mangotsfield School
This video is about a popping boat! the popping boat works by a lit candle which is placed into the boat, there are tubes from the boat to the water so as the heat travels through the tubes it evaporates the water and causes the boat to be propelled forward.

custard powder
By Hanham High
This video shows a flamethrower made with a bunsen burner and custard powder.

The Blue Bottle
By Hanham High
In this film you will see, a group of students trying a "blue" experiment. This experiment involves specific ingredients and time. Please watch it and don't try it because the ingredients are very powerful and dangerous.

H2SO4 + C6H12O8 = 7H2O + 6C + SO2 + O2

Which is which or what is what?

Watch the film, then answer the ten questions below.

Moire Fringes
By Suited and Booted
Here is a short snippet of film which uses the optical effect of Moire fringes in pieces of art. For more information about Moire fringes (in fact more information than any sane person would need) follow this link to Spectral Fringe...
The effect is produced by a red sheet of perspex with vertical lines etched in it swinging slowley behind and orange sheets with lines that are at a slight angle from the vertical. The blue sheet acts to increase the contrast.
